May 17 – 29, 2016
Shri Jasnath Asan
Panchla Siddha, Nagaur, Rajasthan

The culture in India for women has been changing for many years, in the cities and villages. Laws have been passed in support of widows, divorcees, professionals, and those wanting higher education. In 2010, one day after International Women’s Day was inaugurated, the Women’s Reservation Bill was passed. It requires 33% of seats in Parliament and state legislative bodies be reserved for women. In Gujarat 33% of police officer positions will be reserved for women. Panchayat positions all over India are going to women who want to make a difference in their village. These and many more changes are occurring in our country.

Veena Pradhan

District Magistrate, Nagaur

We are so grateful to Mdm. Pradhan for delivering the closing speech at our 2014 closing ceremony. She provided the girls and audience with inspiration and optimism that India will succeed in its vision if all talent is brought to bear in solving our small and large problems. Her words were a shining example of the voice and opinion that our students were encouraged to develop during the 14-day camp. The students and camp teachers met with Mdm. Pradhan after the ceremony, during the meal, to continue the discussion of how to get more women involved in politics and governance of our districts. Thank you so much Mdm. Pradhan for gracing us with your continuing strength and enlightening presence.

Gajara Choudhary

District Education Officer of Jodhpur

SJA is grateful to Mdm. Choudhary for making time in her busy schedule to help us launch the first Girls’ Yoga Empowerment Camp. On the first day, she prepared the girls with a speech explaining the importance of the life skills they were about to learn. In her own life these life skills became a part of her success, bringing her to the current day managing more than 400 public schools in the Jodhpur district. We invite Mdm. Choudhary to visit again and watch SJA become a contributor to the success of Rajasthan, brought by the strong girls we educate and inspire.
