Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Who should attend a pancha karma retreat?

A. Our bodies are incredible. But with too much stress and toxins, very important systems within the body get overloaded and stop functioning at full capacity, and we become sick. Toxins are everywhere – in the air, food, water and in the form of radiation from electrical devices and towers. We can’t always avoid these situations, but we can help our body to restore itself to perfect health by detoxing the gastro intestinal tract and all organs annually – especially the liver and kidneys. With good health, we can live in a toxic environment without too much reaction.

Q. Who should not attend a pancha karma retreat?

A. Though there is a physician available to monitor vital signs, if there is a chronic health issue such as hypertensiveness, diabetes, or irritable bowel syndrome, it is best to seek your own physician’s advice when considering a detox program such as this.

Q. How is this program different from all others?

A. Shri Jasnath Asan is located on the edge of the Thar Dessert, 1.5 hours north of Jodhpur, the nearest busy city. It provides a serene, pure environment with care providers and educators all willing to help you regenerate, and get ready to face the world again. We limit the program to 12 participants so there is enough personal attention for everyone. The guru is available to provide spiritual counseling according to your tradition. The ashram welcomes all people, spiritual, religious, or not – without judgement or expectation. Shri Jasnath Asan is the oldest educational institution in the Marwar region of Rajasthan, and its activities are offered by Shridev Jasnath Trust, a non-profit organization seeking to transmit the true wellness knowledge and traditions of its yogi ancestors. All proceeds from the retreat are used to offer further education to people of this region and visitors from abroad.

Q. Will I be hungry or tired? Will I become sick?

A. Every person’s constitution is different. Where one person is lethargic in the beginning of the procedure, another may become full of energy, or vice versa. It is hard to speculate. If you are normally strong and energetic, then this procedure might not deplete you at all. If you are generally weak, have experienced a recent illness, or are aged 50+ this procedure might make you a little tired. The day is structured to allow each participant to care for themselves according to need. No one will force you to push beyond your ability. No none should experience illness during this period.

Q. Will this be easy?

A. No. Extracting toxins from cells and rejecting them through the large intestine and skin is not easy, but it is not painful. Past participants have said that a few of the first days are difficult, but the massage and environment makes it nice. After the procedures conclude and the regular diet begins around day 10, there will be a burst of energy, clear thinking/seeing/hearing- a level of happiness that comes from a good Spring cleaning. This euphoria will last months, as long as a new lifestyle is maintained including a healthy diet and yoga practice, both of which you will learn during this retreat.

Q. Will I lose a lot of weight? Will it cure me of addiction or other problems?

A. Yes. Participants have reported weight loss of from 1-5 pounds. Others have reported reduced symptoms or complete relief from allergies and addictions. Many have enjoyed many headache free months following the procedure. And all reported improved healthy appetites and normal intestinal functioning.
